New Catamount Mural Unveiled in Rutland
Drivers traveling along Route 4 in Rutland County will notice a new addition to Vermont's landscape: a striking mural celebrating the catamount and the vision of bringing this iconic native species home.
Created by Rutland-based artist Kathryn Wiegers, the mural is painted on a highly visible barn generously made available by The Trading Center in support of the Bring Catamounts Home campaign. The artwork serves as a reminder that catamounts were once an important part of Vermont's forests and invites people to imagine what a wilder future for the state could look like.
We're incredibly grateful to Kathryn Wiegers for bringing this vision to life and to The Trading Center for generously donating the space to make the project possible. We hope the mural inspires Vermonters and visitors alike to learn more about the growing movement to explore whether catamounts could one day return to the Northeast.
If you're passing through Rutland, stop by, snap a photo, and share it with us on social media. Together, we can keep the conversation about bringing catamounts home growing.
