The Guardian Spotlights the Movement to Bring Catamounts Home

We’re excited to share that The Guardian published a feature story this week spotlighting the growing movement to restore mountain lions to the Northeast, including our work here in Vermont through Bring Catamounts Home.

The article, “Mountain lions push for a comeback in the north-east US,” highlights new scientific research showing extensive suitable habitat in the region, growing public support for catamount restoration, and the ecological benefits of restoring a keystone carnivore to help rebalance over browsed forests.

It also underscores Vermont’s central role in this conversation, noting the state’s strong conservation ethic, extensive suitable habitat, and emerging leadership in proactive, community-centered rewilding efforts.

This national coverage comes at a pivotal moment for our campaign as we work to advance a state-led feasibility study and deepen public engagement across the region.

Together, we’re building momentum for a healthier, wilder future and helping move one step closer to bringing catamounts home.
